Poljica is an unspoilt village approximately 15km from the town of Jelsa; Stone houses, flower gardens, narrow streets, and the beautiful church of Sv. Ivan Krstitelj (St John the Baptist) make this a village to remember. Only a short distance of approximately 3km is the unspoilt pebble beaches of Mala and Vela Stiniva.
Jelsa is situated in a bay in the middle of the North Coast of the island of Hvar, which was founded as a port for the village of Pitve in the 14th century. Modern Jelsa is a beautiful typical Dalmatian bustling seaside town with many small businesses. It is a famous tourist centre for the island, which has a gorgeous little square with a selection of cafe bars, restaurants and ice cream parlours. Jelsa also has excellent communications with the mainland, with a daily catamaran service to Split, via Bol on the island of Brac run by Jadrolinija. In addition to the catamaran, nearby Stari Grad runs a comprehensive ferry service to Split.
